Trampoline Ladder Do It Yourself

Requirements:

  • Tape measure
  • 2 2-by-4 wooden planks measuring 42 inches long
  • A saw (table saw or a circular saw)
  • 2 2-by-4 wooden planks measuring 18 inches long
  • A Ruler
  • A Pencil
  • At least angle brackets
  • Power drill
  • One inch long screws for wood, 3/8-inch
  • Four inch long screws for wood, 3/8-inch

The first step is measuring the height of the trampoline. It is advisable to measure from the trampoline frame to the ground. To the height measured, add a few inches to ensure the ladder gets a nice angular tilt against the trampoline. Do not work with a wooden plank the same height as the trampoline. The more inches added, the more angular tilt acquired.

Using a saw of choice, crop out two 2 by 4 planks of 42 inch length. These long planks will act as the margin brace for the ladder. Saw out another two 2 by 4 wooden planks, each 18 inches long. The 18 inch planks will be the ladder steps.

To ensure that the steps are placed an equal distance from each other on the steps, measure 30 centimeters (1 foot) and 60 centimeters (2 feet) from one end of the 42 inch planks. Place a mark on each of the two points. On those points is where the 18 inch planks will be placed.

Place an angle bracket at the 30 cm mark of the right side beam and make a marking in the holes of the angle bracket so as to remember where to screw in. Place another angle bracket at the 60 cm mark and repeat the marking process. Always mark using a pencil. When done with the right side plank, repeat the procedure with the left side plank.

Using the power drill, make a narrow hole at 30 cm mark and the 60 cm mark of the side supports. Position the angle brackets on the side beams and align them with the screw holes. Screw in 3/8-inch screws of 1-inch length into the holes to append the angle brackets. The angle brackets should form a 90 degree angle to ensure once the steps are placed, they will be steady.

Set the 42 inch planks upright and perpendicular to each other. Ensure that the beams are parallel to each other. Position the 18 inch planks horizontally between the upright beams and ensure they fit on the top halves of the angle brackets. Mark a spot in the screw holes of the angle bracket on the lower side of the steps.

Using the drill, make 1-inch holes into the steps at the point where the marks are placed. Align the holes of the top halves of the angle brackets with the newly drilled holes at the bottom side of the steps. Screw in 1-inch long, 3/8-inch screws into each of the gaps to fasten the angle brackets to the steps.

Do It Yourself Steps for trampoline

  • Step 1: Before you start building, ensure you have an impression of the steps you wish to assemble. Generally a step is 15 cm high (6 inches), but for children of small stature are it is necessary to make the steps smaller to decrease the child’s struggle of getting up each step. It is advisable to make the steps 5 cm (2 inches) shorter than the trampoline height.
  • Step 2: Construct a box measuring 60 centimeters (2 feet) by 60 centimeters (2 feet) by 15 centimeters (6 inches). Pallets or plywood are a good material to use, and can be nailed together or glued. In the case where glue is used, ensure the glue dries before you continue constructing.
  • Step 3: Make another box measuring 60 centimeters (2 feet) by 45 centimeters (18 inches) by 15 centimeters (6 inches). Position this box above the initial box in order to make the next step. Secure the second box on top of the first one. You can use nails or glue, even both, but ensure the glued dries properly
  • Step 4: Once you have this construction formula in mind, all you have to do is keep making boxes, stacking them in a step fashion till you reach your desired height. This guideline will help you make steps going 60 centimeters (2 feet) up, but if you wish, you can adjust the measurements to suit your personal desire. Ensure the boxes are firmly attached to each other for a durable sturdy structure.
  • Step 5: For additional safety and stability, you can add beams at the end with the highest steps for holding while climbing the steps. Position the steps at the base of the trampoline, making sure the edge of the trampoline is covering the edge of the highest step. This ensures that children do not fall off while getting on and off the trampoline. The steps are multi-purpose and are easily portable.

Trampoline Stair Plans

Making a trampoline ladder can be considered as the first step to making trampoline stairs. Once you have a ladder in place, you have to add support beams at the back of the side edges of the ladder. Make sure the angle between the support beam and the side beam of the ladder is consistent at both sides. Nail joining planks between the support beam and the ladder side beams to ensure sturdiness. The ladder should be able to stand on its own at this point. Raise a beam from the bottom end of the ladder. The beam should be upright and should not exceed the height of the ladder. At the high point of the ladder, place a beam that goes to the ground and erects to the tip of the ladder, surpassing its height by at least a foot. Do this for both sides of the ladder. Secure a plank on the beam at the high and the bottom end to form a rail. Repeat this for the opposite side. The rails give good support to children as they get on and off the trampoline.
